Proton vibrations in 2,4,6-trimethylpyridinium pentachlorophenolate
Theoretical and experimental INS spectra of 2,4,6-trimethylpyridinium pentachlorophenolate, 2,4,6-trimethylpyridinium hydrochlorate and 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine have been analyzed and compared with the INS spectrum of pentachlorophenol measured previously. The changes in 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine vibrational spectrum connected with formation of the OHN intermolecular hydrogen bond have been analyzed. The spectrum can be split into part belonging to proton donor and proton acceptor but there are bands with participation of both complex components. Shifting of the hydrogen bonded proton to the acceptor is reflected in vibrations of the methyl groups located near the proton acceptor atom. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
