Encapsulation of Hyperthermophilic beta-Glucosidase from Pyrococcus furiosus into Silica Microcapsules
Immobilized enzymes are finding use in bioreactors for a wide range of applications such as in research, medicine, and industry. One of the greatest benefits of immobilized enzymes is that the enzymes can be used repeatedly. In this study, we encapsulated the hyperthermophilic beta-glucosidase from Pyrococcus furiosus (BGLPf) into silica microcapsules. BGLPf plays an important role in the high-temperature hydrolysis of cellooligosaccharides found in biomass. This technology provides a new tool for the effective saccharification of biomass.
