Constructional considerations for the mobile Plus-Energy House
Team Odooproject from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, selected from among nearly 50 other applicants, had an opportunity to measure its skills and performance against 20 other teams in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 competition in Madrid. The team conducted significant research and development work during the two-year competition period. Although research works are usually focused on a relatively narrow range of disciplines, in our case, because of the special requirements of the competition, the team had to create a building using an appropriate theoretical background. To approach this background, the team had to have a broad and multi-disciplinary view and thus brought together different professions and specialties. Such a complex student project has never been attempted in Hungary. Odoo is a good example of the current (and the future) complex expectations of architecture. It demonstrates that, beyond architectural activity, several disciplines must cooperate and contribute equally to create the most appropriate building for the competition requirements. In this complex process, the development of building constructions has a central, unifying role. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
