Self-assembled alkylthiols monolayers onto platinum; influence of the adsorbed oxygen
We have studied the adsorption of alkylthiols CH3(CH2)(m)SH (m = 0, 1, 2, 9) from aqueous solutions or from the pure compound onto a spherical single polyoriented platinum crystal. Electrochemistry, contact angle measurements and Auger spectroscopy have allowed us to characterize the kinetics of formation and the properties of the self-assembled monolayers packed at high density. We have also analyzed the role of the initial thermally adsorbed oxygen, on the organization of the layers.
