Cation mobility in poly(ethylene oxide) solid electrolytes
Analysis of the frequency dispersion together with conductivity and transference number determinations have been performed for the cells Ni\(PEO)(x)NiCl2\Ni, Ni\(PEO)(x) NiI2\Ni, Zn\(PEO)(x)ZnCl2\Zn and Zn\(PEO)(x)ZnI2\Zn with x varying between 4 and 20. The electrolytes were obtained using solvent casting as a preparation method. Working temperatures between 20 and 155 degrees C rendered conductivity values ranging from 10(-9) to 5 X 10(-4) S cm(-1). It has been shown that the nickel-containing samples are mainly anionic polymer electrolytes while those containing zinc are essentially mixed ionic conductors. Fitting based on nonlinear least-squares allowed the building of equivalent circuits to obtain parameters associated to low frequency data.
