Digital simulation of the growth of a hemispherical nucleus by diffusion limited aggregation
This paper presents an evaluation of the algorithm of Nagy et al. (J. Electronal. Chem. 433 (1997) 167) for the digital simulation of the grow-th of a hemispherical particle by diffusion limited aggregation. With a slight modification this algorithm can be used to model a hemispherical nucleus (with r(0) = 0 at t = 0) that is growing under pure diffusion control. A comparison between the theoretical and the simulated values shows a definite trend as a function of the concentration of electroactive species. This indicates that the continuous (analog) growth of the nucleus and the discrete (digital) nature of the grid used for the simulation balance each other perfectly only for a very narrow range of concentrations. Despite this limitation, the algorithm may be useful for the modelling of diffusion controlled nucleation and growth.
