Catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide with atomic hydrogen permeating through palladized Pd sheet electrodes
The catalytic reduction of CO2 gas without protonic solvents was demonstrated successfully using a new electrochemical hydrogenation system constructed previously by us. Formic acid was detected as a product of the CO2 reduction together with H-2 evolution as a by-product. The maximal current efficiency for formic acid production in the present study was about 75%, and it depended on the reaction time and current density for the palladization.
