Effects of Temperature on Cell-Growth and Anthocyanin Production in Suspension-Cultures of Perilla-Frutescens
For optimization of anthocyanin production by suspended cultures of Perilla frutescens, the effect of temperature on the cell cultures was investigated in flasks. At higher temperatures in a range of 22-28 degrees C, a higher (specific) growth rate was obtained. Anthocyanin production was remarkably reduced at the relatively high temperature of 28 degrees C, and 25 degrees C appeared to be optimal for the volumetric productivity of the pigment.
