Effect of mineral fillers on properties of silicone rubber-based ceramizable composites. Part 1. Kinetics of vulcanization and mechanical properties of composites
A silicone rubber was filled with fumed SiO2 and CaO, kaolin, CaCO3, surface-modified CaCO3 or octaphenyl silsesquioxane (POSS) or/and a glassy frit, conditioned for 96 h, cured with 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl peroxide and studied for mech. properties. The addn. of kaolin resulted in the highest tensile strength. The addn. of POSS increased the stability of mix processing, addn. of CaO ensured high tear resistance, while the addn. of CaCO3 decreased hardness. The addn. of surface-modified CaCO3 resulted in the highest friction wear resistance.
