Effect of smoke flow velocity on the fire protection systems
Oak wood rods and polyurethane foam mats were thermally (flameless) degraded or flame combusted in air stream (flow rate up to 7 m/s) in a combustion chamber to test sensitivity of ionization or densitometry-based smoke fire detectors. Distribution of smoke particle no. and size as well as the detector response times were detd. Some practical recommendations for designing safety systems were given.
