Effect of alkyl side chain substitution on molecular structure of comb-like poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) derivatives

Long alkyl side chanis of comb-like poly(2-gydroxyethyl methacrylate) copolymers adopt differnet crystal structures simply because the copolymer has differnet degree of side chanin substiution. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and grazing incidence wide angle X-ray diffraction (GIWADXD) studies were employed to show various molecular structures, such as orthorhombic, hexagonal, and random phases, formed in side chain of the comb-like copolymer.
