Convective heat transfer coefficients between air flow and a short cylinder. Effect of air velocity and turbulence. Effect of body shape, dimensions and position in the flow
We studied the effects of air flow and body properties on heat and mass transfer coefficients around a short cylinder. Body properties, i.e. shape, dimensions and position in the air flow generally had less effect than flow properties, and decreased with turbulence. The effect of flow properties, i.e., air velocity and turbulence intensity, on transfer coefficients could be described by the relation previously established on long cylinders in cross-flow and on a pork hindquarter. The most important body property was cylinder height-to-diameter ratio. In turbulent flows, all the results are described by only three relations, which can be used for calculations at industrial scale.
