THE POROUS-WALL CERAMIC MEMBRANE REACTOR - AN INHERENTLY SAFER CONTACTING DEVICE FOR GAS-PHASE OXIDATION OF HYDROCARBONS
The porous-wall ceramic membrane reactor (PWCMR) is a new type of contacting device, which has proved very efficient for some gas-phase hydrocarbon oxidations. In addition, this reactor presents significant advantages from the safety point of view. Some of these are discussed in this paper, and experimental results are presented which show that the PWCMR can be operated in a safer and more easily controllable way than a conventional fixed-bed reactor.
