Cytoprotective effects against UVA and physical properties of luteolin-loaded cationic solid lipid nanoparticle

Solid lipid nanoparticles consisting of cationic lipids were prepared for effective delivery of luteolin, and evaluated their physical characteristics and cytoprotective effects against ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation and H2O2 in HaCaT cells. This study reports that triple-tailed CSLN can enhance transdermal delivery of luteolin with high entrapment efficiency, slow release kinetic without initial burst. Further, it showed high intracellular uptake, provided the highest degree of the cytoprotective effects of LT-CSLNs (83.10%, 77.65%) as compared to non-treated groups (60.85%, 52.70%) against UVA and H2O2. These results suggested that LT-CSLN3 could be used as an effective transdermal delivery system for luteolin.
