A new polymer, poly(perfluoropropylvinyl ether) and its comparison with other perfluorinated membrane materials
Synthesis of a novel amorphous, glassy perfluorinated polymer, poly(perfluoropropylvinyl ether) is described. Various physicochemical properties of it were studied: sorption isotherms, solubility, permeability and diffusion coefficients, free volume. A comparison is made with other glassy perfluorinated polymers. The properties of the novel polymers are in agreement with those of earlier studied perfluorinated polymers. Thus weaker dependence of the solubility coefficients is observed with the boiling point of solutes. On the Robeson diagrams for the gas pairs He/H-2 and He/CH4 the data points of perfluorinated polymers form a separate band located between Upper bounds of 1991 and 2008 and above the data point of hydrocarbon-based polymers. It means that the novel polymer, as well as other perfluorinated materials are suitable for separation of such gas mixtures. Some correlations of gas permeation parameters and free volume estimated by the PALS method were noted. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
