Non-natural peptides containing Ru(II) and Pd(II)-bipyridine complexes in the main chain were synthesized and characterized by spectral measurements and element analysis. The 5,5'-disubstituted derivatives exhibit red-shifted pi-pi* transition bands, which suggest the presence of extended pi-conjugated system. Emission spectra, electrochemical measurements and molecular dynamics (MD) calculations also support this suggestion.
