The galvanic type oxygen sensors were prepared by using gold as a cathode and used for the improvement of the combustion efficiency of boilers. The concentration of oxygen could be measured very accurately even in the real flue gas. It was found that the combustion efficiency of both domestic and industrial boilers was improved by controlling the air-fuel ratio according to the analysis of oxygen concentration by the sensor.
