A novel alkaloid (1,8,8-triinetliyl-5,8-diliydro-1H-pyrano[3,4-b]pyridine-4,6-dione) was isolated from the chloroformic traction obtained from the total alcoholic extract of the aerial parts of Stapelia hirsuta L. In addition, apigenin, luteolin and beta-sitosterol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside were also isolated.
