Preparation and Characterization of Reactive Adsorbents - Analysis of the Reaction Process
The removal of undesired gases can be realized by a dry separation through a packed bed of particulate adsorbents. Shaped solids containing potassium permanganate as active component were prepared by extrusion and used for the deposition of the model pollutant H2S. The extrudates were characterized with respect to the mechanical stability and the separation efficiency by breakthrough curves. These experiments show a breakthrough of the extrudate bed before the adsorbents have reacted completely. Apparently, the gas only slowly intrudes into the extrudate, so the reaction takes place mainly near the outer surface.
