Fault Current Contribution Analysis of Doubly Fed Induction Generator-Based Wind Turbines
The fault current contribution of the doubly fed induction generator-based wind turbines (DFIG-WTs) is dictated by a combination of factors, including the electrical parameters of the machine and the controller configuration of the converters. This paper presents an analytical derivation of short-circuit current quantities considering the controller influences. Mathematical models of the short-circuit current were first developed based on the closed-loop transfer functions, and approximate expressions for time constants and frequencies were derived. The mathematical models and the expressions for time constants and frequencies were later validated using a manufacturer-based simulation model and a nonlinear optimization for parameter extraction.
