Macrokinetics of Facilitated Transport Through Liquid Membranes .2. Stirring
The detailed mechanisms of facilitated transport through liquid membranes with carriers are discussed. The theoretical description of the model with the distribution of carrier between the membrane and aqueous phases ("big carrousel") was given in a previous paper. In this paper, the influence of stirring on the "big carrousel" steady-state transport is analyzed and it is demonstrated that the reactions in the aqueous phases result in interrelations of chemical and diffusion processes in both unstirred and stirred layers. The total aqueous resistance to transport is not described by the usual series resistance formula but, for slow reactions, it is described by a parallel resistance scheme.
