Studies on addition of epichlorohydrin to bisphenol A in presence of phase transfer catalysts
Epichlorohydrin was added to Me2C(C6H4OH)(2) (BPA) in the presence of NH4 and phosphonium salts to produce epoxy resins by transformation of the intermediate product in presence of NaOH under azeotropic removal of H2O. The highest conversion of BPA (near 99%) after 4 h was achieved at 85 degrees C when BuMeNCl was used as catalyst.
