Beech wood chips were wet torrefacted in a batch reactor. The wet raw material (moisture content 50%) was heated at 190-230 degrees C for 5-30 min. The gas yield was 0.23-2.23%. The gas contained CO2 (up to 94.14%) and CO (up to 5.86%). The solid product had a reduced volatile matter content (up to 67.02%), increased higher heating value (up to 22.24 MJ/kg), irregularly changed ash content (658-749 mg/MJ) and fixed C content (up to 32.31%).
