Application of magnetic field to control mass transport process during silver cementation on copper
During silver cementation onto copper, the magneto-convective driven mass transport was investigated for orthogonal magnetic field, B up to I T. Using the chronopotentiometric measurements of the reset potential of copper vertical electrode at various initial silver ions concentration, C-0, the study shows an increase of the reaction rate constant and a decrease of the duration of silver deposits formation. The effect may be attributed to the magneto-convection involving the paramagnetic cupric ions which are produced at the copper electrode, since no comparable effect observed for zinc electrodes. With copper electrode, the experimental data show that the rate constant is proportional to (C0B2/3)-B-4/3 and the duration of silver deposit is proportional to C0-4/3B-2/3. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V.
