Ultrafine milling of organic materials has become more and more important. Besides the desired high product quality major challenges are energy efficiency and the reduction of milling wear from grinding media. The study presents the correlation between operating parameters and shows how to achieve maximum product fineness under optimized stressing conditions. From these findings rules for the operation of stirred media mills for fine milling of organic materials can be derived. In addition to the operating parameters especially product formulation and particle size represent key parameters to reduce grinding media wear.
