How to Save Time on Long Reports and Other Major Writing Projects
You can save many weeks that would otherwise be spent rewriting and recycling drafts of a major document. First, use an expanded outline of the document (with illustrations attached) as the basis for a prewriting conference at which you obtain approval in principle of the full text you are going to write. Second, compose the document, either by dictating (to a tape recorder, a stenographer, or a computer equipped for voice recognition) or by "talking to the keyboard" (i.e., dictating to yourself). On an important report or proposal with multiple levels of approval, these two steps are major timesavers.
