Integrating Data for the Reservoir Engineer
More and more companies are moving to multidisciplinary asset teams to work cooperatively on the same reservoir management and development studies. In the past software developed specifically for the different disciplines or players had no mechanism for sharing the results effectively. With the enhancements in technology for collecting data, its quality and quantity have increased tremendously. The thrust now is removing data barriers between the different disciplines and proprietary systems, allowing data to be shared in a timely fashion to improve accuracy and productivity. At the same time, many companies desire to preserve previous investments in software, whether it was purchased or developed internally. A project data store has been developed that allows companies to use all reservoir, petroleum engineering, fluid, and geoscience data in a variety of applications, including their own favorite software, overcoming previous integration problems and leading to improvements in reservoir modeling, reservoir management, and risk reduction. Easy access to the bank of this information on global, corporate, and project levels will equalize technology at both large and small energy producers. Managing its access and use will drive software development in the near future.
