The Salary Survey provides information to help SPE members compare compensation in petroleum engineering throughout the world. Previously, surveys were mailed to each SPE member with the annual dues-renewal notice. This method generated responses from only about 15% of the SPE membership each year. For the 1998 survey, SPE for the first time used a survey firm to study a statistically valid sampling of the Society＇s membership.
