Ocean-bottom-seismic survey at Valhall
Multicomponent-3D-seismic-data volumes demonstrate significant potential to improve reservoir management and obtain optimum well positioning. In the Valhall field, the crestal area is poorly defined by conventional-streamer data because of gas residing in the overburden causing compressional (P) -wave attenuation and distortion. Acquisition of 3D converted (C) -wave (P-wave converted by subsurface reflection to an S-wave) volumes, integrated with the usable portions of P-wave volumes, enables seismic interpretation in a vector manner. This technology provides new details regarding the structure and properties of the reservoir.
