A model for 4C-/4D-seismic-data acquisition
The seismic-data-acquisition methods used at Teal South to acquire a four-component (4C) -seismic survey are intended to be a model for repeated acquisition for time-lapse (4D) seismic imaging. These methods represent a low-cost approach to 4C/4D acquisition. A critical aspect of multicomponent-seismic-data acquisition is determining the orientation of the seismic sensors on the ocean floor. Statistical determination of apparent phone orientations was derived from the seismic data with an accuracy of approximately +/-5 degrees. Part of the uncertainty appears to be related to source/receiver azimuth. Further analysis of these and subsequent data will be required to ascertain the cause of the azimuthal variation in apparent phone orientation.
