This paper reviews trends and planned developments around the world in floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) technology. The first FPSO vessels were developed in the mid-1970＇s. In 1986, riser turrets were developed and FPSO＇s were used for extended well testing (EWT) in the North Sea. In the late 1990＇s, FPSO use grew rapidly with their adoption in the North Sea and offshore Brazil for life-of-field use.
