Role of Ionic Head Groups in the Zero-Pressure Phase of Fatty-Acid Monolayers
A simple model for head-head interaction in a fatty acid monolayer on the air-water interface has been developed considering the role of ions in the interfacial layer. The model predicts the formation of a two-dimensional lattice structure even at very low concentrations of amphiphile molecules as has recently been observed by synchrotron X-ray diffraction and reflectance studies.
