Lack of Superaromaticity in Carbon Nanotubes
The degree of aromatic stabilization caused by the cylindrical structure of a pi-electron system was estimated for different infinitely long carbon nanotubes. It was found that this kind of superaromaticity is almost absent in graphitic tubules although very many conjugated circuits can be chosen along the circumference. This constitutes the main reason why all realistic graphitic tubules are as highly aromatic as graphite.
