Application of supercritical CO2 extract of oak bark in shower gels
A shower gel was prepd. by mixing an aq. 1% extract from the bark of oak (Quercus robur L.) obtained with supercrit. CO2 with 9% extract of Saponaria officinalis root and glycerol, xanthan gum, alkyl polyglycoside, Na benzoate and citric acid and studied for rheol., surface tension, washing and foaming properties. The formulation was a pseudo plastic, non-Newtonian, shear-thinning fluid. Its viscosity decreased with increasing the shear rate. The surface tension of 1% aq. solns. of the gel was above 28 mN/m. The foaming and washing properties were similar to those of com. shower gels.
