Neutron-Diffraction Study of the Effect of a Polyelectrolyte on the Hydration of Nickel Ions
The method of neutron diffraction and isotopic substitution was used to study the hydration of nickel (Ni2+) ions in a 2 m nickel poly(styrenesulfonate) solution. The result shows that the polyion has a significant effect on the immediate Ni2+ hydration shell of six water molecules.
