Infrared Probe of the Solvent Response to Ultrafast Solvation Processes
Femtosecond IR spectroscopy has been used to probe how the solvent responds to the excitation and subsequent solvation of LDS750 in various solvents. A shift of the vibrational spectrum of the solvent has been observed. This spectral change is estimated to be caused by ca. 10 solvent molecules in the first solvation shell. The recovery times of the solvent LR absorption toward equilibrium are evidently related to the solvation time of the solvents. An effect that might signal the solvent reorientation was observed. This experiment represents a direct study of solvent response during the solvation process.
