Temperature Effects on the Luminescence of Re(I) Complexes - On the Competitive Relaxations of 2 Electronic States
Emission spectra and luminescence rates of Re(CO)(3)L(2)X (L(2) = pyridine : or bisquinoline derivatives, X = halide) have been measured in various media at temperatures between 298 and 77 K. The emission has been associated with parallel relaxations of two excited states : an intraligand state and a metal-to-ligand charge-transfer state. Rates of emission correlate with the excited state - ground state energy gap. Mechanisms mixing intraligand with charge-transfer states are proposed as means to explain the dependence of the emission rate on temperature.
