Iron-Catalyzed C5 Halogenation of 8-Amidoquinolines Using Sodium Halides at Room Temperature
An efficient method for the iron-catalyzed chlorination or bromination of quinoline at C5 positions using sodium halides at room temperature is described. The present process furnishes good yields and selectivities of the desired remote C-H activation products under mild reaction conditions. A plausible single electron transfer mechanism of the remote halogenation of quinolines is proposed on basis of the results of various control experiments. Text for Table of Contents: A simple and efficient process for the iron-catalyzed chlorination or bromination of quinoline at C5 positions using sodium halides at room temperature is described.
