A Thermal Engine Driven by a Thermokinetic Oscillator
In this work, I investigate a thermal engine driven by a thermokinetic oscillator model, namely, the Sal’nikov oscillator. This model shows, under certain conditions, sustained periodic oscillations in both temperature and the concentration of the intermediate species. The heat released by the exothermic chemical reaction is used to move a piston which exchanges work between the system and the environment. In this case, the endoreversibIe assumption cannot be applied because the working fluid is subject to an oscillatory chemical reaction which necessarily takes place under far from equilibrium conditions.
