Microscope Measurements of the Passing of Individual Paramagnetic Particles through Interface of Aqueous Two-phase System by Magnetic Force
Mn2+-adsorbed cation-exchange resin particle is not ferromagnetic but paramagnetic. First, the individual Mn2+-adsorbed particles were trapped at aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) interfaces. Then, they were drawn down from the interface by a downward magnetic force and were released from there. The forces on the particles, i.e. the magnetic force, the gravitational force, the buoyancy, and the force caused by the interfacial tension, were estimated from the experimental results.
