Cavitand-capped Porphyrin Capsule Stabilized by Quadruple Hydrogen Bonds
A 1:1 mixture of meso-tetrakis(4-dodecyl-3-hydroxyphen-yl)porphyrin (1) or its Zn-porphyrin (1-Zn) and tetrakis(4-pyridylethynyl)cavitand (2) in C6D6 self-assembles quantitatively into the cavitand-capped porphyrin capsule 1.2 or 1-Zn center dot 2 via quadruple ArOH center dot center dot center dot Npy hydrogen bonds. It was revealed that a guest is encapsulated in 1-Zn center dot 2 and regardless of molecular length, various pyridyl ligands selectively coordinate at the outer side of 1-Zn center dot 2.
