Continuous separation of particles by fluidized beds
For a non-mixable binary solid system, the particles will segregate along the axis in a fluidized bed. The continuous separation of a binary mixture was investigated using a cold model in a rectangular fluidized bed. The optimum operating conditions for the separation of a mixture containing two different-sized glass beads was studied experimentally. Extractive fluidized classification, which is analogous to liquid-liquid extraction, was investigated for a mixable binary system. This process is quite effective as a dry process for coal cleaning.
