Curing kinetics study on highly efficient thermal synergistic polymerization effect between alicyclic imide moiety and phthalonitrile
Phthalonitrile and alicyclic imide moiety blends were obtained by mechanical mixing, and the curing behaviors and kinetics parameters of the phthalonitrile/alicyclic imide moiety systems were investigated by non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results showed that an apparent autocatalytic model d alpha/dt = k(T)alpha(m)(1 - alpha)(n) can be determined to describe the systems, and the apparent activation energy of 3BOCN/CC-55, 3BOCN/CC-73 and 3BOCN/HCC-55 are 105.9, 120.6 and 83.4 kJ/mol with not much different reaction orders 1.67, 1.49 and 1.56, respectively. The conversions which are approximately 0.36, 0.41 and 0.40 corresponding to the maximum reaction rate values of 3BOCN/CC-55, 3BOCN/CC-73 and 3BOCN/HCC-55 are experimentally determined, respectively, which are in good agreement with the fitting values.
