Sumanene, a C-3v-symmetric pristine buckybowl, afforded a dearomatization reaction with OsO4 to give the di-adduct at both the internal and peripheral positions. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation revealed that the distortion of the curved system significantly decreased the energy barrier for the dearomatization.
