Two D-A type phenothiazine derivatives were successfully designed and synthesized. Their typical solvatochromism was confirmed by spectroscopy. Experimental result also revealed that aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect may be ascribed to the restriction of intramolecular rotation (RIR). Furthermore, both of them displayed blue-shifted mechanochromic behavior, which is clearly distinguished from their red-shifted precursor aldehyde. This kind of compound has a certain significance in the development and application of organic mechanochromic materials.
