Gravity reclaim stockpiles: What you need to know
In many mining and industrial processes in which large quantities of nondegrading bulk materials and ores are stored, stockpiles are widely used because they are economical compared with other storage alternatives, especially when using a gravity reclaim system with feeders housed in tunnels under the pile. However, they are not free of trouble and may experience flow problems such as arching, ratholing, erratic flow, limited storage capacity, limited discharge flow rate, caking, segregation, and/or flooding. A proper design based on the flow properties of the material to be stored should be done to prevent these problems.
