Comparison of magnetic field effect and exciplex luminescence in pyrene-N, N,dimethylaniline system in acetone and methanol: Anomalous behavior in alcohols
Steady state magnetic field effect (MFE) on pyrene/di-methyl-aniline exciplex luminescence has been studied in various concentrations of pyrene in acetone and methanol. Photo-induced electron transfer in this system generates radical ion pairs undergoing geminate, non-geminate as well as bulk recombination. It has been observed that MFE in acetone is always greater than that in methanol for identical pyrene concentration. However the exciplex fluorescence yield is always greater in methanol than that in acetone. The data and non-typical behavior of alcoholic solvents with respect to the variation of MFE with permittivity has been explained on the basis of a phenomenological model. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V.
