Experimental studies of sorbents for CO2 capture from flue gases in Solvay process
Aq. solns. of NH2CH2CH2OH (30%), NH2Me2CH2OH (30%) + piperazine (10%) or NH3 (6%) were used for removal of CO2 by absorption from CO2-contg. air (10 or 20% by vol.) under lab. conditions (gas flow 5 m(3)/h, temp. 20-45 degrees C, pressure 100-130 kPa). The solvents were recovered by stripping CO2 for recycling. The lowest energy demand was found for NH3 at 10% CO2 concn. (6.2 MJ/kg CO2) and for amine mixt. at 30% CO2 concn. (8.2 MJ/kg CO2).
