Development of a Model Approach for the Phase Distribution in Packed Columns
A local description of the phase distribution in packed columns is a promising approach to improve scale-up and column design. So far, previous models were not applicable for industrial scaled columns with a high level of detail at the same time. Consequently, the models were limited in their capability and accuracy for extrapolation. In this contribution, a novel approach for a cell model is introduced. By means of a detailed consideration of the phenomena responsible for phase distribution and the use of a wire-mesh sensor for distribution measurements, an improved extrapolation accuracy is expected.
