Bioprocess engineering covers all stages from physicochemical processing of raw materials to conversion of materials through biotechnological and chemical processes to product processing. Thereby, bio-based chemicals and biocatalysts should be produced from renewable raw materials. The innovations from monitoring and control units to complete bioreactor systems presented at this year's ACHEMA are summarized. Trends such as increasing digitization and replacement of reusable fermentation systems with single-use systems are observable.
